Debu(t)ary: Jeffree Star I'm Royalty

Jeffree Star I'm Royalty Velour Liquid Lipstick
I've been following Jeffree Star's career for over a decade now,  I remember his MySpace days and obsessing over his photos.  While I wasn't very interested in his music, I was in love with his pink brows, perfect skin and glitter everything.

Jeffree recently launched his own makeup line.  The first of his products to launch are the Velour Liquid Lipsticks.  Currently 3 colours are available with more coming very soon.  I bought one, I'm Royalty, a deep blue-based purple.

Firstly the packaging; a lot of people love it but I find the design quite childish and chunky.  Packaging isn't something that I care about too much though, unless it doesn't function well, so it does not affect my opinion of the Velour Liquid Lipstick.

The wand it an angled doe-foot.  It is fairly precise although I do recommend using a lip liner and/or cleaning up with a concealer as the colour is so dark.  Mistakes really show up.

The Velour Lip Liquid applies super smooth.  I found I got opaque coverage in two swipes and the formula dries to matte in about 2 minutes.  As with all liquid-to-matte lipsticks, you need to make sure you exfoliate your lips well beforehand and then moisturise them well.

The blue tone to the purple makes teeth look super white.  I really love the colour, it is unique in my collection.  Rollergirl Lip Tar by OCC is lighter,as is L.A. Girl Glazed Lip Paint in Coy.  MUA Kooky, Illamasqua ESP and Melt By Starlight are all more red-toned, By Starlight also being darker.

My only complaint about I'm Royalty is that I don't find it dries down completely.  Quite a few liquid-to-matte formulas have this problem (I find Sleek's Matte Me formula the best so far) so it wasn't completely unexpected but still a bit disappointing.

I the photo below I kissed my hand and you can see the outline transferred.  If I put a finger to my lips colour transfers and it does mark mugs and glasses when you drink.

All-in-all, I really like Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in I'm Royalty and would definitely consider buying more shades when the line is bigger.  The 2 other shades currently available are a classic red, Redrum, and a bright pink, Prom Night, and I just know I have similar colours in my stash already.

These have been selling out fast.  They are all currently out of stock on the Jeffree Star website  and Love Makeup  but should be back in stock next week with the release of a new colour.  They are £13 each or £35 for a bundle of three.

What is your favourite liquid-to-matte formula?  Would you buy any Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks?
